What is OneDrive for Business?
OneDrive is an integral part of Office 365 or SharePoint Server, and provides place in the cloud where you can store, share, and sync your work files. You can update and share your files from any device with OneDrive. You can even work on Office documents with others at the same time.
Note: OneDrive for Business is different from OneDrive, which is intended for personal storage separate from your workplace. OneDrive for Business is also different from your Office 365 team site, which is intended for storing team or project-related documents.
How much space do I have in OneDrive?
As standard each user receives 1tb of cloud storage for their account. The easiest way to find out how much OneDrive storage space you have, and how much is available to use, is to sign in to OneDrive. From within OneDrive on the browser select the cog wheel in the top right-hand corner and select 'OneDrive Settings'. From within the new browser tab select 'More Settings' from the left-hand column. Select 'Storage Metrics' to display current usage.
Can I recover OneDrive files that I deleted?
To recover deleted OneDrive files, check your Recycle Bin on your desktop if you are using the OneDrive sync tool, or go to the OneDrive website and click the Recycle bin link in the lower-left corner. For more information, see Find lost or missing files in OneDrive.
How can I check whether files are still uploading and downloading?
You can see upload and download progress in the OneDrive app, in File Explorer, and also from the OneDrive icon in the notification area, at the far right of the taskbar. (You might need to click the Show hidden icons arrow next to the notification area to see the OneDrive icon.)
Right-click the OneDrive icon to do other things, such as:
- Start a sync to get OneDrive to check again for changes, pause a sync to temporarily stop uploading or downloading files, or try to resolve sync issues.
- Click Settings to set which folders sync to your computer, make all files available offline or online-only, or set some file types to automatically save to OneDrive.
How can I browse files shared with me and Office documents I have worked on recently?
Sign into OneDrive. On the left panel under OneDrive, click or tap Recent or Shared to see things you've recently worked on. Click or tap Shared to see items shared with you, or that you have shared with others.

OneDrive comes integrated with Office Online, allowing you to use web-based versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote and automatically save the files you create in your OneDrive storage. How do I share documents with colleagues within CIT?
You can share your documents with colleagues within CIT by using Get a Link, Inviting people to share the document or creating a group to share a document with a set of people.

Can I share documents with people outside of CIT?
Yes, you can share documents with people outside of the CIT organization. Ensure you select the sharing option ‘Specific People’ and enter their full email address. You can opt to allow editing or view only options.
How do I restore previous versions of my documents?
OneDrive maintains version history copies of your files so that you can easily return to earlier ones should you accidentally overwrite them with incorrect data. I am experiencing trouble uploading files to my OneDrive.
What happens when I delete a file? Can I get it back?
When you delete a file, it goes into the Recycle Bin for 90 days. After 90 days, it gets deleted permanently. To get a file back from the recycle bin, access onedrive directly from the browser. Once within the OneDrive section, select the 'Recycling Bin' from the left hand column. Within this section you will see all folders and files that have been deleted within the last 90 days. Select the file or folder and depending on your requirements, you may restore from there or permanently delete.
Can I sync a file a colleague sent me?
Yes, you can. Navigate to the 'Shared' section within OneDrive on the browser select the file or folder you wish to sync and select the 'Add shortcut to My files' option along the top ribbon. This similar to the synchronisation of your files will create a new folder on your device containing the relevant files and folders you selected the sync.
Can I access OneDrive from my mobile device?
Yes, you can. Navigate to your official app store and search for Microsoft OneDrive app, download and install on your device. Complete the sign-in function and access will be available to your files.
