1. Vigilance regarding emails
These viruses are generally delivered by very convincing yet fake emails, either as an attachment disguised as a legitimate document or as a link in the email itself see example screenshot below. We would ask you all to be extra vigilant when dealing with the processing of incoming emails. If you feel an email is suspicious it is recommended to delete it immediately.
FOR EMAILS YOU ARE SUSPICIOUS OF NEVER CLICK ON THE ASSOCIATED ATTACHMENT OR HYPERLINK.
IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT YOU DO NOT RECIRCULATE ANY SUSPICIOUS EMAIL YOU RECEIVE.
2. Keeping your pc up to date
Keep your windows operating system up to date by installing any important and optional updates listed.
Step 1. Select – Start, All Programs, Windows Updates, see screenshots below.
Step 2. Check online for updates from Microsoft Updates
Step 3. Install updates
A full restart may be required once necessary updates are fully installed.
It is advisable to repeat this process after the restart as it is often the case that further important updates are required.
3. Backup your files
All work associated files saved centrally on shared drives are backed up. This is where your work based files should be stored. However files stored locally on the PC should be regularly backed up to REMOVABLE storage.
Removable storage should be disconnected from your machine when not in use to further help prevent it from also being infected or Cryptolocked.
